A Little Bit of Action
H Wallace Construction, a general contractor in Lebanon, Oregon, demolishing a bathroom in Albany, Oregon, on November 18. Determining whether the header board is weight-barring is a big part of what is done to establish safety. Luckily, it was not weight-barring and was able to be removed. Once all walls and frames are removed, new walls can be built after the debris's time-consuming clean-up. Anywhere from a couple hours to a whole afternoon is spent to ensure the work is done properly.
Chris Stitzel has worked for H Wallace Construction for five years before this job. He is a close friend of the owner, Harry, for many years. Before beginning his construction career, Chris was a painter called by Harry to do some demolition work. Chris's mom babysat Harry's kids, so their friendship flourished from there. Chris enjoys his work and says, "besides what everyone tells you, construction is really not that hard. As long as you can follow directions, you can be a construction worker."
Tim Wallace started this construction business with his brother Harry a few years ago. Tim was partnered with his brother but decided he wanted to start recording music with his three kids. Tim still records today, playing guitar. He also enjoys construction work, especially demolition, he says. It is the fastest work of the job. H Wallace does work with home remodels, demos, installation of windows, new decks, roof maintenance, fencing, water issues under the house, the big things, the little things, and all that's in between.
